Music Genre: Pop
The term pop music was first used in 1926 in the sense of appealing to a wide range of people however since 1950 it has been used to describe a genre of music. It tends to have a rhythmic element alongside catchy tunes for the audiences’ enjoyment which therefore achieves commercial success. Its structure stems from ballads which have a repetitive style, ordinarily the 4th line of each stanza and the lyrics tend to focus on romantic love.
Britney Spears - Toxic
- Britney in this video is scantily clad however she is wearing the colour blue which is associated with males. She is also wearing an almost see through outfit in white which is ironic due to the connotation of purity yet the outfit is provocative.
- All the passengers appear to be male and it is the female air hostesses attending to them which portrays the women to be passive and subservient.
- Britney seduces the male in order to takes his money which can be compared to the concept of prostitution.
- Despite this she is shown to be in control throughout the video and the low angle shots reaffirm this idea of her being dominant.
